How Are QCHF Speakers Chosen?
As you can imagine QCHF Speakers and Presenters come from a variety of backgrounds and skill sets. Obviously, speakers need to have a background which is compatible with the subject area(s) they wish to address. For instance, our speakers in the area of Nursing Services usually have an RN background and long term care or enforcement experience. Likewise, when selecting speakers in the area of business management we look to managers with experience in operations, billing and finance (back office). Many of these speakers come to us from our member facilities and from the ranks of our associate members. Others come from State and Federal Agencies with a willingness to participate in education and training for our members. These pages will offer those with an interest in becoming presenters some background information; a general criterion for becoming a speaker candidate and a place to download RFPs and other pertinent documents. QCHF and CAHF are always seeking well qualified individuals and groups who can meet the needs of our diverse membership for continuing education.

QCHF CEU Categories
QCHF currently offers CEUs (Continuing Education Units) in a variety of professional licensure and certification categories. These categories have a set of specific requirements for content, presentation format, evaluation and verification of attendance. Not all categories are appropriate for all topics. For instance, a topic on wound care would be very appropriate to NHAP (P) and BRN, but would not have relevance for RCFE. When applying to be a presenter be aware of your intended audience and don't be disappointed if your topic is not necessarily acceptable for all categories of CEUs.

Nursing Home Administration Program: NHAP & NHAP (P) - These units may cover virtually any area of Management, Regulatory, HR, Billing and Clinical issues. California Nursing Home Administrators are required to complete 40-hours of continuing education every two years. Of these, 10-hours must be (P - Patient Care) credits.

National Association of Boards of Examiners of Long Term Care Administrators: NAB – A national body which also issues CEU approvals. They too have specific areas of interest. For an in depth look at their policies visit their web site:

California Board of Registered Nursing: BRN – The State Agency charged with licensure and testing of Registered Nurses. These CEUs should be based on Management Techniques, Personnel Issues, Regulatory Issues and most importantly, Clinical Issues. Registered Nurses are required to complete 30-hours of continuing education every two years.

Residential Care for the Elderly: RCFE – A division of the California Department of Social Services. Areas of Management, Personnel & Dietary Issues are considered most appropriate for RCFE credits. These units require the most lead time for submission. Forty-hours of Continuing education are required every two years for RCFE Administrators to maintain their Licenses.

California Board of Behavioral Science: BBS – The State Agency charged with licensing and certification for LCSWs & MFTs. These units should have a concentration in Counseling and Social Services in the long term care setting. The BBS requires 18-hours of continuing education for the first license renewal and 36-hours for renewal thereafter.

The State Bar of California: MCLE (Minimum Continuing Legal Education) – The California Bar is responsible for licensure of attorneys practicing in California. Each member of the Bar is required to complete 25 hours of continuing education every three years. These units are primarily based in Regulatory Issues, Personnel and Contracts.
Maximum "self-study" hours: 12.5 hours
Members must fulfill at least one-half of their MCLE requirement with activities approved for "participatory" MCLE credit.
Special Requirements within the total hours required (may be taken as participatory or self-study):
1. Legal Ethics: 4 hours (required)
2. Detection/Prevention of Substance Abuse: 1 hour (required)
3. Elimination of Bias in the Legal Profession: 1 hour (required)

QCHF is eager to expand its Speaker's List and to broaden the range and scope of its classes, both current and those on the drawing board. We invite your ideas for improvement of current classes as well as new class concepts. After we receive your application you will be contacted to set up a meeting - can be face to face or via the internet and/or conference call. For that meeting you will be expected to do a 10 or 15-minute presentation to demonstrate your presentation skills and style. If you are interested in becoming a QCHF Instructor please take time to read the attached (downloadable form below) application and submit it to QCHF as convenient. And remember, your topic may not be a good fit for our needs today, but may be perfect for a future class or location. All submissions are filed and indexed for current and future needs. Thanks again for your support and interest in QCHF/CAHF.
